Gut geschriebener, spannender und gründlich recherchierter Roman über einen Juristen aus der Zeit Heinrichs VIII. und Thomas Cromwells. Zusätzlich zur Kriminalgeschichte bekommt man auch viele Einblicke in diese unruhige Zeit, wo in England die Klöster aufgelöst und jahrhundertealte Traditionen zerstört wurden.
Welch ein grandioser Roman! Selten ist Geschichte so dreidimensional und mitreißend zwischen zwei Buchdeckeln rübergekommen: Der bucklige Anwalt Matthew Shardlake wird von Lord Cromwell beauftragt, einen Mordfall in einer Abtei zu untersuchen, die im Zuge der Reformation Heinrichs des Achten aufgelöst werden soll. Die Untersuchungen gestalten sich schwierig, denn in diesen unsicheren Zeiten denken gerade auch die vor dem Nichts stehenden Mönche erst mal an sich selbst...Mit Matthew Shardlake hat der Autor einen Ich-Erzähler ins Leben gerufen, der seinesgleichen sucht: Durch seine Augen wird die englische Reformationszeit lebendig; man bekommt hautnah mit, welche gravierenden Folgen die Loslösung von der katholischen Kirche im Alltag der Menschen bedeutet hat. Shardlake ist kein religiöser Eiferer, dafür ein kluger Beobachter, der sich aus der Politik am liebsten raushalten möchte, aber gnadenlos in ihre Fallstricke reingezogen wird.Kein anderes Buch hat mir die Zeit Heinrichs des Achten so spannend und so mitreißend und so anschaulich vor Augen geführt wie die Reihe um Matthew Shardlake, und "Dissolution" ist ihr grandioser Auftakt. 5 Sterne!
Einfach, aber fesselnd geschriebenes Buch. Hat man angefangen zu lesen, will man es nicht mehr weglegen, sondern weiterlesen. Erinnerungen an "Der Name der Rose" wurden durch das Setting wach. Gute Beschreibung von Charakteren, der damaligen Zeit und ihrer Probleme durch den "Abfall" von der römisch katholischen Kirche durch King Henry. Man fühlt sich in der Zeit zurückversetzt und kann mit den Charakteren, insbesondere natürlich Brother Shardlake, mitfühlen.
Das Buch ist bis zum Schluss unterhaltsam und historisch gut recherchiert...wer gerne mitdenkt beim lesen wird alle in der Serie lesen...

Super spannend. Man fühlt sich in die Zeit versetzt. Ein historischer Roman mit Lernfaktor über Dinge,die im Geschichtsunterricht nicht vorkommen.
Der Roman ist prachlich wirklich gut, thematisch interessant, spannend, gut geschildert, psychologisch bestens gezeichnet, die Zeitumstände sind realistisch dargebracht. Was will man mehr.

One especially warms to Matthew Shardlake, a hunchbacked lawyer and reformer fighting double prejudice as Thomas Cromwell's commissioner and not immune himself from feelings of jealousy and forming inappropriate emotional attachments, even doubting his own faith, but also slightly too trusting and somewhat naïve for a man in his position.The dialogue, especially at the beginning of the book, feels a little forced at times, as the author is trying to impart historical details to set the scene or flesh out the individual backgrounds to establish the characters for the reader. The pace almost slows to a stop in a few places and could have been tauter, and the solution to Singleton's murder was stretching credibility just that little bit too far for my comfort zone. That said, it's still the best (historical) murder mystery novel I've read in ages, one where the plotting wasn't so blindingly obvious that one could spot the murderer after about five chapters into the book, but it's about more than the violent taking of a life: as Matthew Shardlake says at the end of the book, the perpetrator would not have committed a murder "but for the times we live in, and" ... "would never have got away with fraud had things been more stable. You might as well ask what country England has become."The most memorable thing about this novel are the vivid and evocative descriptions of mid-Tudor England, and the way C J Sansom manages to convey to the reader the turmoil and upheaval of those years of the English Reformation. He provides plenty of opportunity for philosophical and theological thought and discussion by presenting a variety of different view points, without forcing us to make a decision one way or another, but rather letting us make up our own minds. Even if your knowledge of that part of history is a bit sketchy (as is mine), when reading this book you realise that this was a momentous turning point in history and we are still able to see its remnants nearly five centuries later. I've already got the next book in the sequence (Dark Fire) lined up.
